I.The True Nature of God
A.Introduction
1. God is the most misunderstood, misrepresented, mischaracterized being in the universe. He’s wrongfully blamed for sickness, disease, birth defects and natural disasters.
2.The Bible says that God reveals Himself to mankind in 4 ways: #1 nature, #2 man’s conscience, #3 the Scriptures and #4 Jesus. Some misunderstanding of God’s true nature comes from a misunderstanding of OT Scripture.
B.God is Love
1.(1 John 4:8-10, 16 NIV) God is love.
a.Before God made an atonement for man’s sin through the life and blood of Jesus, God did show His judgment of sin under the law.
2.(Rom. 5:12-14 NIV) God did not impute man’s sin to them from Adam to Moses, yet death reigned.
a.(Rom. 6:23) God hates sin because it brings death.
~(Rom. 6:16 NLT) sin gives Satan entrance into your life.
b.(Gen. 3:21-24 NIV) Adam/Eve
c.(Gen. 4:15-16 AMPC) Cain and Abel
~(Gen. 4:23-24 NIV) Lamech 5 generations later.
~God’s judgement: the flood Gen. 6:5-6, Sodom & Gomorrah ref. Gen. 18:20-21.
d.Because people were taking advantage of God’s mercy sin multiplied and death increased, God brought the law to condemn and restrain sin.
~(Gal. 3:19 NLT) the purpose of the law.
3.(Gal. 3:13-14 NLT) Christ took the curse of breaking the law on himself so that anyone who believes in Him can receive the blessing.
a.(John 12:27, 31-33) Jesus took on the judgment of the world at the cross.
