A.The Gifts of the Spirit
1. What are the gifts of the Spirit? Three categories of gifts: – ministry, motivational and manifestation gifts.
a.(Eph. 4:11) 5 Ministry gifts
~Apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor & teacher.
b.(Rom. 12:3-8 NLT) 7 Motivational gifts
~Speaker, server, teacher, exhorter, giver, administrator, care-giver.
c.(1 Cor. 12:7-11) 9 Manifestation gifts
~Word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healings, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues & interpretation of tongues.
2. The nine gifts categorized:
a.Three revelation gifts reveal something:
~Word of wisdom – the supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning the divine purpose and plan in the mind and will of God. Always speaks of the future.
~Word of knowledge – the supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of certain facts in the mind of God- facts about people, places, or things in the past or present.
~The discerning of spirits- gives supernatural insight (seeing or hearing) in the spirit realm.
b. The three power gifts do something:
~The gift of faith
~The working of miracles
~The gifts of healings
c. The three utterance gifts say something:
~Prophesy
~Divers kinds of tongues
~Interpretation of tongues
B. The Word of Knowledge
1. Word of knowledge – the supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of certain facts in the mind of God- facts about people, places, or things in the past or present.
a. God is omniscient (all-knowing). This gift is a word or fragment of His knowledge.
~The word of knowledge is not gained by natural knowledge.
~The word of knowledge is not a profound knowledge of the Bible.
~The word of knowledge is not knowledge of God through close communion with Him.
2.Bible examples of the word of knowledge:
a. Jesus: woman at the well. (John 4:10-18)
b. Peter: Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11)
c.Ananias: Paul (Acts 9:10-20)
d.Peter: Cornelius (Acts 10:9-21)
e. John: the seven churches in Asia (Rev. 1:10,11; 2:1-7)
Old Testament examples:
f. Samuel: Saul’s lost donkey’s. (1 Sam. 9:3-6, 15-16, 19-20)
g. Samuel: Saul found hiding (1 Sam. 10:21-23).
h.Elijah (1 Kings 19:1-4, 9-10, 18)
i.Elijah: Gehazi (2 Kings 5:21-26)
j.Elijah: Syrian army (2 Kings 6:8-12)
