I. Characteristics of Bible Believing
A. Rest – God Has Already Finished the Work
1. God calls the “promise land” that the children of Israel were promised a place of rest, but there is still a place of rest for believers today.
a. “Entering God’s Rest” is having the assurance that what Christ has done in His work of redemption is complete in your life. This “rest” is a place of cooperation with God, and not a place of striving, dead-works or inactivity.
b. The promise land is NOT a type of heaven; it is a type and shadow of living in the abundant promises of the kingdom of God for you.
2. (Heb. 3:15-4:3 TPT)
a. God was angry with the children of Israel because they wouldn’t believe He would bring them into the promise land even though He miraculously brought them out of Egyptian slavery and bondage.
~(Deut. 6:23) Brought you out to bring you in!
~(Josh. 21:43-45 NLT) Every promised fulfilled!
b. The same gospel and promise of rest that was given to them is also given to us.
~(Deut. 7:1-9, 12-15, 17-24 NLT)
~(Deut. 8:6-18 NLT)
c. When did God complete the work for the promise land and this rest? Before the foundation of the world!
~(Heb. 4:3)
~(Matt. 25:34)
~(Eph. 1:3-4)
~(1 Pet. 1:18-20)
~(Rev. 13:6-8)
3. (Heb. 4:9-12 TPT) “So we conclude that there is still a full and complete Sabbath-rest waiting for believers to experience…”
