I.Becoming a Kingdom Single

A. Singles, Sex and Sexuality 1

1. (1 Cor. 5:1-7, 9-13 all NLT) Paul dealt harshly with sexual immorality in the church because of its dangerous and deadly consequences.

a. Corinthian church chaos: On a hill in Corinth sat Acrocorinthus, the temple of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. On one side was a restaurant, on the other a brothel with over 1,000 “sacred” prostitutes who engaged in sex with worshippers.

b. (ref. Gen. 1:28; 6:1-7) Sex was created by heaven not hell or Hollywood. But Satan is an expert at taking what God made good, perverting it and making it bad. God had to destroy all living creatures because of perverted sex.

c. (ref. Luke 17:26, 28) Today we live in an immoral sex saturated society like the days of Noah and Lot. (TV, movies, music, computers, smart devices)

~Sexual immorality successfully normalized

2. (Heb. 13:4 NIV) God’s purpose for sex is to inaugurate and renew the marriage covenant, and pleasurably procreate.

3. (1 Cor. 6:9-20) sex is much more than physical contact and an exchange of fluids, but involves the joining or intertwining of spirit, soul and body.

a. (v9-11) unrighteous vs. righteous; possessing vs. practicing righteousness; entering vs. inheriting the kingdom of God.

b. (v12) when anything in our Christian walk holds us hostage it is spiritually illegal. We have passions but passions should not control us.

c. (v13) The Corinthians looked at sex in the same way food satisfies the appetite for hunger.

d. (v14) If God got Jesus up from the dead He can get you up out of the illegitimate sexual bed.

e. (v15-17) As a Christian your body and spirit are in union with the Lord. Whenever you have sex you are joining your body to another; becoming one flesh with them. A piece of you is left with everyone you have sex with.

~Oxytocin, dopamine, adrenaline, serotonin, testosterone, estrogen among many other chemicals are released in the brain and body to mentally and physically connect during sex.

f. (v18 AMP) sexual sin is like no other sin. It’s a sin from the inside out that affects your spirit, soul and body.

~Flee sexual immorality! Not resist! Not stand against! FLEE! Run!

g. (v19-20) Your body is the temple of God, the house of God and you are the church.

4. (ref. John 8) In closing, a woman was caught in the bed of adultery…

a. (v11) “…Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

b. (ref. Isa. 1:18) “…Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
