I. What to Look for in a Christian Mate

A. What Christian Men Want in a Wife

#1 Relationship with Jesus – she should have a genuine personal relationship with Jesus.  A real relationship with Jesus will affect every decision and choice in life.

a. (2 Cor. 6:14-15)

#2 Sweet & Gentle – not combative and argumentative.  There are ways to disagree and voice your opinions without attitude.

a. (1 Pet. 3:3-4 NASB; Prov. 21:9 NLT)

#3 Visually & Physically Attractive – you want a woman that stimulates you physically.

a. (2 Cor. 7:2-5 NLT)

#4 Supportive & Cooperative – you want a woman that will support, help develop your God-given dreams, goals and vision for life. “Team player.”

a. (Amos 3:3 NLT)

#5 Submissive – not passive.

a. (1 Cor. 11:3 ESV; Eph. 5:21-25 AMP)

#6 Best Friend

a. Qualities of good friendship

~Things in common

~Laugh & have fun together

~Enjoy their company

~Trust

~Honesty

~You can be yourself around them

~We can talk about EVERYTHING!

#7 Hard-worker – not lazy; willing to join in when necessary to help get the job done.

B. How a Christian Man Should Pursue a Christian Woman

1. There is set formula for dating in the Bible

#1 Check Yourself

a. Be honest with yourself as to whether you are ready to connect with a woman spiritually, emotionally, and financially.

b. Are you working on being your best you?  Are you happy with who you are, and who you’re becoming?

#2 Approach a Woman with Confidence and Respect

a. Practice your introduction and approach.  Check your presentation whenever you leave the house and go in public.

#3 Talk

a. Really get to know each other by talking about everything. Talk about your past, your life dreams and desires.

b. This is where you’re going to find out her true beliefs and character.

#4 Plan Unique Dates

a. Go and do fun things together.  Dinners, movies, bike riding, walks, mountain climbing, canoeing, horseback riding, shopping, cook dinner, art museum, sporting events, concerts, plays…

#5 Be Clear

a. Be clear about your intentions with the relationship. What are we doing here? Where do you want this to go?

#6 Be Consistent

a. Be a man of your word. Align your actions with your words.  Say what you’re going to do, and do what you say.
