A.The Manifestation Gifts

1.(1 Cor. 12:7-11) 9 Manifestation gifts

2. The nine gifts categorized:

a.Three revelation gifts reveal something:

~Word of wisdom 

~Word of knowledge

~The discerning of spirits

b. The three power gifts do something:

~The gift of faith

~The working of miracles

~The gifts of healings

c. The three utterance gifts say something:

~Prophecy

~Different kinds of tongues

~Interpretation of tongues

B. The Gift of Prophecy

1. (Acts 21:8-11 AMP) The gift of prophecy vs. the office of the prophet.

a. Operating in the simple gift of prophecy doesn’t make one a prophet.

b. A prophet stands in the a 5-fold ministry office as a teacher or preacher and operates in prophecy and at least two revelation gifts on a continual basis.

~We can all prophesy but we all aren’t prophets.

c. (Acts 13:1-4 AMP) The Holy Spirit manifest His gifts as we worship the Lord.

d. (Eph. 5:18-20 NLT) The gift of prophesy like tongues and interpretation of tongues can be used in one’s personal prayer life.

C. The Gift of Different Kinds of Tongues

1. Different kinds of tongues is supernatural utterance by the Holy Spirit in languages never learned nor understood by the speaker.

a. Tongues is the gateway to the other gifts of the Spirit.

b. Tongues is the most prominent gift because:

~Speaking in tongues is the initial physical evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

~Paul gave prominence to tongues perhaps because it was and still is so widely misunderstood.

~The gift of tongues is unique to this dispensation.

2. Tongues is the initial evidence of being filled with the Spirit.

a.(Acts 2:1-4) Day of Pentecost

b.(Acts 8:5-19) Peter and John in Samaria

c.(Acts 9:3-18) Paul saved & filled 

d.(Acts 10:44-46) Holy Spirit falls on Gentiles 

e.(Acts 19:1-7) Paul at Ephesus

3.Purposes of speaking in tongues.

a.Initial evidence of the baptism in the Spirit

b. (1 Cor. 14:4; Jude 1:20) Edifying or building yourself up.

c. (Rom. 8:26-27) helps our weakness; praying the will of God when we don’t how we should pray.

d. (1 Cor. 14:2; 2:6-14) speaking forth the wisdom of God for your glory.

e. (Isa. 28:11-12) rest and refreshing

4. (1 Cor. 14:13-15) Interpreting tongues in our private prayer life.

5. (1 Cor. 12:30) The gift of tongues in public ministry. Not everyone who speaks in tongues is used in public ministry.
