A.The Gifts of the Working of Miracles

1. (1 Cor. 12:7-11) 9 Manifestation gifts

2. The nine gifts categorized:

a. Three revelation gifts reveal something:

~Word of wisdom 

~Word of knowledge

~The discerning of spirits

b. The three power gifts do something:

~The gift of faith

~The working of miracles

~The gifts of healings

c. The three utterance gifts say something:

~Prophesy

~Divers kinds of tongues

~Interpretation of tongues

3. (1 Cor. 12:31 AMP) “But earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces)”

a. “covet earnestly” (KJV)

4. Gift of faith vs. working of miracles – the gift of faith is a gift of the Spirit to the believer in order that he might receive miracles (passive). The working of miracles, on the other hand, is a gift of the Spirit given to the believer that he might work miracles (active).

a. Elijah being sustained during famine (passive) vs. Jesus feeding 5000 (active).

B. The Working of Miracles – a supernatural intervention in the ordinary course of nature, a temporary suspension of the accustomed order, or an interruption in the system of nature as we know it, operated by the power of the Holy Spirit.

1. Old Testament Examples

a. Moses and the Israelites

~(Exo. 7:8-12) Aaron’s rod

~(Exo. 7:15-21) water to blood

~(Exo. 8:5-6) plague of frogs

~Lice, flies, livestock diseased, boils, thunder-hail- fire, locusts, darkness, death of firstborn

~(Exo. 14:13-16) Red Sea parting

~(Exo. 15:22-25) bitter water of Marah

~(Exo. 16:11-18) manna from heaven

~(Exo. 17:1-7; Num. 20:7-12) water from the Rock

~(Num. 21:4-9) the bronze serpent

b. Elijah and the widow (1 Kings 17:8-16)
