A.Nature and Purpose of the Gifts of the Spirit
1.What are the gifts of the Spirit? 3 groups of gifts – ministry, motivational and manifestation gifts in the Bible.
a.(Eph. 4:1-16) 5 Ministry gifts
~Apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor & teacher.
b.Rom. 12:3-8 NLT) 7 Motivational gifts
~Perceiver, server, teacher, exhorter, giver, administrator, compassion
c.(1 Cor. 12:1-11, 28-31) 9 Manifestation gifts
~Word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healings, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues & interpretation of tongues.
2.What is the nature of the gifts?
a.They are grace gifts. They cannot be earned, merited or worked for to receive.
b.They are given to each one as the Spirit wills, not as we will. Every believer has at least a spiritual gift and perhaps more.
c.These gifts are supernatural. They are always on a level higher than we can achieve by our own natural ability.
3.What is the purpose of the gifts of the Spirit?
a.The gifts are to unify, mature and equip the saints for the work of the ministry.
b.The gifts should cause us to rely on God’s supernatural ability and not our natural ability.
c.(1 Cor. 1:4-9) The gifts are to confirm the testimony of Jesus Christ in us.
d.(1 Cor. 12:12-31) The gifts enable all believers to contribute to the common good of the whole body.
