A.The Purpose of the 5-Fold Ministry
1.Every believer is called to the ministry.
a.That doesn’t mean quit your job and start a church.
b.Why people typically stop coming to church is because they’re not fulfilling their purpose as a believer and get bored.
c.Why 7 out of 10 pastors that start in ministry quit within 5 years is because they are not fulfilling their purpose in the ministry.
d.Those in the 5-fold ministry are not some superior, elite class of believers that God has chosen to do the work of the ministry.
2. (Eph. 4:1- 5:20) Our corporate and individual call to ministry and appropriate lifestyle and behavior.
a. (4:12 NKJV/NLT/NIV) 5-fold ministry:
~Equip God’s people for the work of the ministry.
~Edify and build up the church.
b. (4:13 NLT) How long?
~Until we all come into unity of the faith,
~Knowledge (epignosis) of God’s Son (Jesus)
-Epignosis – exact or full knowledge
~Become mature in the Lord
~Measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.
c. (4:14-16 NLT) Why?
~That we won’t be immature like children
~That we aren’t tossed to and fro by every new teaching
~So we aren’t deceived by false doctrine
~So we learn to speak the truth in love
~Grow up in Christ
~So we fulfill our corporate and unique purposes in Christ.
