A.Misunderstanding the Sovereignty of God
1.One of the greatest roadblocks to believers receiving from God is a misunderstanding of the sovereignty of God.
a. Sovereign means a supreme ruler; possessing supreme or ultimate power.
2. “You can never know what God is going to do. He can do whatever He wants to do.”
a. God has set limitations to His sovereignty by His Word.
~(Ps. 138:2) God submits to His Word
~(Matt. 24:35) God’s word is forever
~(Ps. 89:34-35; Num. 23:19; Tit. 1:2)
~(1 John 5:14-15) confidence in Him~
~(Mark 11:22-24) faith in God
~(Jas. 1:5-8) ask in faith
3. “God is in control of everything and nothing happens unless He allows it.”
a. God needs man’s cooperation and participation to do anything in man’s life today.
~(Deut. 30:19) free moral agents
~(Eph. 3:20) according to the power in us
~(Rom. 8:17) joint heirs
~(2 Pet. 3:9) God’s will is that none perish
-(John 3:16; 1 John 2:2)
4. Examples in Jesus’ ministry.
a.(Mark 6:1-6) Jesus could do no mighty works
b.(Mark 5:25-34) woman with issue of blood
c.(Luke 7:11-15) widow of Nain’s son
d.(John 9:1-7) blind man’s faith activated
e.(Acts 3:1-9, 16) cripple man’s faith
f.(Acts 10:1-5) Angels can’t preach gospel
g.(Jas. 4:7) the devil flees from you
h.(Luke 10:19) You have God’s authority
