A.What is Grace?

1.Foundation verse: (Rom. 5:17) reigning in life through receiving abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.

2.What is Grace? Grace is God’s power, strength and ability to be who you are born to be, and to do what you are born to do through faith; unmerited favor.

B.Pride Stops Grace

1.(Jas. 4:6-10; 1 Pet. 5:5-9) God gives grace to the humble.

a.Humility – goes low, bows down, submits, yields, allows, lowly of heart, depends on God and others.

b.Pride – high-minded, haughty, lofty estimation of oneself, braggadocious, arrogant, looks down on others, inflated; self-centered, self-dependent, self-sufficient, independence from God.

~Humility-God’s nature; pride-Satan’s nature.

~Humility is God-centered; pride is self-centered

~Humility operates in and accepts the truth; pride believes, propagates and protects lies.

~Christ-image vs. self-image (Matt. 16:24-26)

~Jesus – (Matt. 11:28-29 NIV; Phil. 2:3-11)

2.The Effects and Results of Pride

a.(Jas. 4:6; 1 Pet. 5:5) Pride hinders promotion.

b.(Prov. 11:2) Pride brings shame.

c.(Prov. 13:10) All strife is rooted in pride.

d.(Prov. 15:25) Lord destroys the house the proud

e.(Prov. 16:18) Pride precedes destruction/failure.

f.(Prov. 29:23) Pride brings low.

g.(Dan. 5:20 AMP; Oba. 1:3) Pride hardens the heart and mind, and deceives us.

h.(Ps. 138:6) God knows the proud from afar.

i.(Prov. 6:16-19; 8:13; 16:5; 21:4) God HATES pride!

3.Signs and symptoms of pride.

a.Pride loves to talk positively about itself and critically of others.

b.Pride insist on being seen or noticed. Pride hates being overlooked.

c.Pride doesn’t show sincere interest in others, but looks out for self.

d.Pride is not easily impressed.

e.Pride’s language is lies and exaggeration.

f.Pride is often and easily embarrassed.

g.Pride is angry, in strife and often offended.

h.Pride is very impatient and often irritated by others everywhere.

i.Pride lives for name brands to impress others.

j.Pride is unreasonable and irrational.

k.Pride hates to serve or give, but loves to be served and receive.

l.Pride thinks some people or some things are beneath them.

m.Pride hates admitting wrongs or sincerely saying “I’m sorry.”

n.Pride is argumentative and defensive.

o.Pride doesn’t like to follow instructions but must do things it’s way.

p.Pride hates to receive correction.

q.Pride hates submitting.

4.How do I get rid of pride in my heart?

a.Learn what God says about pride, remembering God hates pride.

b.(Deut. 17:18-20 NLT) Read the Word daily.

c.Ask yourself these questions:

~Why do I want that?

~Why did I say that?

~Why does that bother me?

d.(Job 33:14-18 NLT) Ask the Lord.

e.Don’t look for pride in others, but examine yourself and your state in life?

f.Don’t overreact when God shows you pride in your heart. Don’t fall into condemnation.

g.Begin to consider others.

h.Assume the best of people
