I.Understanding the Sovereignty of God

  1. (Luke 11:1) “Lord, teach us to pray…”

a.We must be taught to pray properly and effectively.

b.Prayer is relational communication and fellowship with God based on His Word. Prayer invites heavens into earthly matters, brings eternity into time, and brings the eternal into the physical.

c.The 1st and primary purpose of prayer is to establish and maintain a personal intimate relationship with the Lord.

2. The Sovereignty of God may the greatest misunderstanding that causes misguided, inoperative or ineffective prayers.

a.Sovereign – all powerful, supreme ruler or monarch.

b.Some think, “If God allowed it to happen, it must be His will.” Some tag “If it be your will” on all their prayers.

~(Jas. 4:7) Some things are of God, we must submit to them, and other things are of the devil, we must resist them.

~(John 10:10 AMP; Jas. 1:17) God is good and the devil is bad.

c. God is owner, we are stewards/rulers, and we should operate in partnership with God.

~(Gen. 1:1, 26-28) God is owner, but man is the manager/steward/ruler.

-(Matt. 6:9-10) Jesus teaching prayer.

~(Ps. 24:1-2; 89:11-14; 115:16) God has ownership; we’ve been given stewardship and ruler ship; so we work with God in partnership.

~(Ps. 8:1-9) When God gave man dominion He limited His own over the earth.

~(Ps. 82:6-7; John 10:31-36) You are gods!

-(1 Cor. 6:19-20) even our bodies belong to God

-This is what tithing and giving is all about!

d.So did God allow Adam to eat of the fruit or did Adam allow Adam to eat?

~(Gen. 2:15-17; 3:1-6) It was not God’s will that Adam and Eve ate of the fruit but they did, because they didn’t submit to God and resist the devil.

~(2 Pet. 3:9) God’s WILL is that no one perish.

~(Ps. 89:34-35) God’s Word is covenant and He works with man in coordination with His covenant.

~(Tit. 1:2) God cannot lie!

e. (Mark 11:22-24) There are some things we need to say to the mountains and other things we need to pray to God.

~(Matt. 16:19 AMP) binding and loosening in agreement with heaven.

~(Jas. 4:2-3) have not because you don’t ask

~(1 John 5:14-15) ask according to God’s will.

~(Jas. 1:5-8) If I don’t know what the will of God is ask for wisdom and receive wisdom by faith.
