I. Entering His Rest

A. Labor to Enter His Rest

1. “Entering God’s Rest” is having the assurance that what Christ has done in His work of redemption is complete in your life. This “rest” is a place of cooperation with God, and not a place of striving, dead-works or inactivity.

a. The promise land of “rest” is NOT a type of heaven; it is a type and shadow of living in the abundant promises of the kingdom of God for you.

~Rest = Believing and ceasing from your own works.

b. (Jos. 21:43-45; 24:2-15) Joshua’s generation possess the promise land.

2. (Heb. 3:19 – 4:2) the promise of rest.

a. The same gospel and promise of rest that was given to them is also given to us.

~(Deut. 8:6-18 NLT)

b. The word they heard didn’t profit them because they didn’t mix it with faith.

c. (Heb. 4:3) When did God complete the work for the promise land and this rest? Before the foundation of the world!

~(Eph. 1:3-6 TPT) You and I

~(1 Pet. 1:18-21 TPT) Jesus

~(2 Cor. 1:20) In Him

3. (Heb. 4:9-12 KJV)

a. (v9-10) Did you do any work to be born-again? To cleanse you of all your sin? No, God did the work, you cooperated by believing.

b. (v11-12) Labor to enter the rest by studying God’s Word and making the decision to believe it!

~(2 Tim. 2:15 KJV)

~(2 Pet. 1:18-21 NLT)
