I. Understanding Differences Between Law & Grace
A.The Purpose of the Law
1.(Ps. 89:34-35) God deals with mankind based on covenant. A covenant is a pact or agreement cut between two or more parties. The Bible is divided into two covenants or testaments.
a. Old Covenant of Law based on man’s obedience
b. New Covenant of Grace based on Jesus’ obedience
2. (Heb. 8:6-13 NLT) the old covenant is obsolete because of the new covenant
a. (Matt. 9:16-17) the old and new covenant are not to be mixed, they are mutually exclusive.
B.Grace Gives Life, the Law Kills
1.Grace gives life but the law kills.
a. (Gal. 3:9-14 NLT) trying to be right with God by keeping the law actually brings the curse.
