I.Understanding the End Times
A.The Importance of Bible Prophecy
1. (ref. Dan. 9:20-27) Daniel’s seventy week’s prophecy (490 years) is one of the most important and profound prophecies in Scripture.
a. March 14, 445 B.C. – April 6, 32 A.D. = exactly 173,880 days or 483 years.
~490 – 483 = 7 years left (Tribulation period)
B. Israel – God’s Super Sign and Stopwatch
1. (Matt. 24:1-3) most of end-time Bible prophecy surrounds Israel. Israel is the epicenter and God’s super sign and stopwatch for all end-time events.
a. (Deut. 7:6-9) The whole Bible is written about and centers around the Jews, God’s chosen people.
2. Some great truths about Israel the Scriptures show us:
a. (Gen. 12:1-2) Israel is the only nation ever created by God. The survival of the people of Israel is one proof of God’s active providence in the lives of His people.
b. (Gen. 15:18-21; 17:7-8) God made an everlasting covenant with His people. This everlasting covenant is a land promise and a people promise.
c. (Gen. 12:3) God not only promised blessing, but He also promised that His people Israel would be a blessing to all the earth.
~First, the Jewish people gave us the most important man in all human history – Jesus.
~Second, the Jewish people gave us the gift of the most important book in the history of the world – the Bible.
~Thirdly, the Jewish people gave us the most important organization – the Church.
3. Some prophesies regarding Israel and the end-times:
a. Israel is Regathered Twice
~(Hos. 9:10; Matt. 24:32-34) May 14, 1948 Israel became a nation against all odds. The generation that sees the birthing of Israel as a nation will see all these things come to pass.
-(Ps. 90:10) 70 or 80 years
-(Gen. 15:13, 16; 21:5) 100 years
-Average lifespan globally 70 men, 75 women; US 75 men, 81 women.
~(Isa. 11:11-12) 2nd time returning to Israel
~(Isa. 66:6-8) Israel born in one day
~(Jer. 16:14-15) Russian Jews returning to Israel
~(Luke 21:20-24) June 10, 1967 Jerusalem retaken by the Jews in the 6 Day War.
~(Joel 3:1-2) the land of Israel divided
