I.The Gifts of the Spirit

A.The Gifts of the Spirit

1. (1 Cor. 12:7-11) 9 Manifestation gifts

2. The nine gifts categorized:

a. Three revelation gifts reveal something:

~Word of wisdom

~Word of knowledge

~The discerning of spirits

b. The three power gifts do something:

~The gift of faith

~The working of miracles

~The gifts of healings

c. The three utterance gifts say something:

~Prophesy

~Divers kinds of tongues

~Interpretation of tongues

B. The Gift of Faith – is a supernatural manifestation of the Holy Spirit whereby a believer is empowered with special faith, or wonder-working faith in order that one might receive miracles.

1. (1 Cor. 12:9 AMP) The gift of special faith or wonder working faith is not the same as saving faith or general faith that every believer should live by.

a. Saving or general faith which is a gift from God, comes by hearing the word, and is given to every believer, but the gift of faith is a special gift which is given supernaturally as the Spirit wills.

~(Eph. 2:8; Rom. 10:17; 12:3; 1 Cor. 12:11)

2. Gift of faith vs. working of miracles – the gift of faith is a gift of the Spirit to the believer in order that he might receive miracles. The working of miracles, on the other hand, is a gift of the Spirit given to the believer that he might work miracles.  One is passive and the other is active.

a. (1 Kings 17:1-16) Elijah being sustained during famine.

b. (Dan. 3:16-25) Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the fiery furnace.

c. (Dan. 6:18-23) Daniel in the lion’s den.

3. (Phil. 2:5-8 AMP) Jesus lived as a man filled with the Holy Spirit, operating by the gifts of the Spirit and not as God.

a. (Matt. 10:1, 7-8; John 14:12) Jesus tells disciples to heal the sick and raise the dead.

~(Matt. 14:25-33; John 6:21) Jesus and Peter walking on the water

~(Mark 4:35-38) Jesus asleep in the boat

b. Casting out devils may require revelation gifts and the gift of faith.

c. Raising the dead may require all three power gifts working in conjunction: gift of faith, working of miracles and gifts of healings.
