~Word of knowledge

~The discerning of spirits

B. The Word of Wisdom

1. Word of wisdom – the supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning the divine purpose and plan in the mind and will of God.  Always speaks of the future.

a. (Josh. 1:8 AMP) The word of wisdom is not wisdom in the affairs of life.

b. (2 Chron. 1:10; Jas. 1:5) Solomon’s wisdom wasn’t a manifestation of the word of wisdom. His wisdom was God-given wisdom by simply asking.

c. Word of knowledge vs. word of wisdom – W.O.K. is a supernatural revelation concerning certain facts about people, places or things, past or present. W.O.W. is a supernatural revelation concerning purposes and plans of God in the future.

d. The utterance gifts can be a vehicle for the revelation gifts as well as dreams and visions. The gift of prophecy is given for edification, exhortation, comfort, but not revelation. So if there is an element of foretelling or prediction in a prophecy it is a word of wisdom.

~When OT prophets foretold they were actually exercising the word of wisdom.

2. Biblical examples of the Word of Wisdom:

Old Testament:

a. Noah from God: (Gen. 6:13-18)

b. Joseph through a dream: (Gen. 37:5-10)

c. Isaiah to Hezekiah (2 Kings 20:1-6)

d. Jonah to Ninevah (Jon. 3:4-5, 10)

New Testament:

e. Agabus the Prophet: (Acts 11:27-28; 21:10-14)

f. Paul: (Acts 27:9-11, 21-25)
