~Different kinds of tongues

~Interpretation of tongues

B. The Gift of Interpretation of Tongues – is the supernatural showing forth by the Spirit the meaning of an utterance in other tongues. It is not the translation of tongues.

1. (1 Cor. 14:5) Interpretation of tongues is the least of all the gifts of the Spirit because it depends upon another gift – different kinds of tongues – in order to operate.

2. (1 Cor. 14:2, 4, 14) In private prayer it is not necessary that everything I utter in other tongues be clear to my understanding.

a. (1 Cor. 12:30) Not everyone who speaks in tongues is used in public ministry. The primary purpose for speaking in tongues is in private prayer.

b. (1 Cor. 14:13, 15) Yet on some occasions you or God may desire that you interpret your prayers in other tongues.

~(1 Cor. 2:7-14 AMP)

3. (1 Cor. 14:6-19, 27-28 all NIV) In ministering publicly in tongues in any one service, Paul is saying that the person speaking in tongues should pray that he may interpret, but if someone else should interpret that it should be done by two or at the most by three people.

a. (1 Cor. 14:29-33, 40) Listening to the Spirit while submission to the authority of the pastors and leaders is essential in exercising the vocal gifts.

~(1 Cor. 14:36-38 NIV) humility and correction
