I. Effective Prayer

A.Ask the Father in Jesus’ Name

1.(John 14:6, 12-14; 15:16; 16:23-27; Mark 16:15-18)

a.What does asking or commanding in Jesus’ name mean?

#1We only have access to the Father through Jesus.

#2The power of attorney: the authority act and speak on behalf of another.

~When I pray to my heavenly Father in Jesus’ name, I’m praying as an authorized representative of the Lord standing in His righteousness, holiness, power etc. and on His behalf.

~Ex: “I come in the name of the king!”  “Stop! In the name of the law!”

2.The Acts of the Apostles:

a.(Acts 3:1-7) “…In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk…”

(Acts 3:11-16) the key is knowing Jesus
~(John 17:3) knowing Jesus
(2 Pet. 1:2-4 NLT) knowledge of Jesus
(Col. 3:17) do everything in the name of Jesus
– Water baptism: the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit = Jesus
b.(Acts 4:5-12) “…whom you crucified…”
c.(Acts 19:11-16 NLT) Seven sons of Sceva
