I.Ephesians
A.(Ephesians 1:3-14) – Work of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit
1. (v3-6) The past work of the Father
a. He blessed us (v3), chose us (v4), predestined us (v5), adopted us (v5)
b. (to the praise of the glory of His grace)
c. (v6) “He made us accepted in the Beloved.”
~Accepted charitoo – highly favored (Luke 1:28)
2. (v7-12) The present work of the Son
a. (v7a) In Him we have redemption – a releasing affected by payment of ransom.
~(John 8:34, 36 ESV)
~(Rom. 6:16-18)
b. (v7b) the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
~(1 John 2:1-2)
~(Matt. 12:31-32) unforgivable sin
c. (v9-10) having made know to us the mystery of His will…He might gather together in one all things in Christ.
~(Col. 1:15-20)
d. (v11a) In Him also we have obtained an inheritance…
~Our inheritance is Him
~(ref. 1 Sam. 25) David, Nabal, & Abigail
e. (v11b) being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.
f. (v12) that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
3. (v13-14) The future work of the Holy Spirit
a. you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise
b. who is the guarantee of our inheritance
c. until the redemption of the purchased possession
d. to the praise of His glory.
