A. The Purpose of the Law

1. One of the most prevalent themes and principles in the proverbs is righteousness and its promises.

a. (Prov. 10:2, 6, 11, 24; 11:4, 8, 21; [15:6 AMP])

b. (Ps. 5:12; 34:15, 17, 19; 37:25)

c. (Isa. [32:17-18 AMP]; 54:14, 17)

d. (Gal. 3:13-14, 29 NLT; Rom. 4:13-14)

2. What is righteousness?

a. Righteousness – total acquittal; clearance from all guilt shame; right standing and right relationship with God. (Justified, just, right, upright)

b. (ref. Rom. 5 – Reign through Grace and Righteousness) You became a sinner because of Adam’s deeds; you became righteous because of Jesus’ deeds. Your deeds have nothing to do with either status!

c. (ref. Rom. 6 – Dead to Sin) We were slaves of sin and death, but now slaves of righteousness and life, sin and death no longer have dominion over us.
