Operating in the Everyday, Ordinary, Supernatural!

Romans 12:1 MSG Everyday, Ordinary, Supernatural

I. Background

  Childhood experiences.

A. Hope allows us to be stable, in place, in the natural realm while reaching into the supernatural, spiritual realm.

Hebrews 6:19-20

Ex: Anchor Analogy

B. Imagination exercises our soul’s ability to hope

Hebrews 11:1-3 GNT

Faith & Believing

:3a KJV

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, …

– Imagination is important training for children

– use imagination and hope to move things by Faith from the supernatural to the natural realm

C. Our souls should be controlled from the super (spiritual) rather than the natural

Remember how we are created:

1 Thess 5:23  – Spirit, Soul, & Body

Romans 8:5-9 GNT

D. Prophesy for us to be operating more in the supernatural

Acts 2:17 CSB

And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all people;

Joel 2:28 NKJV – prophecies, visions, and freams

We are in the last days – this prophecy is for ALL OF US…

E. Man was meant to live having their senses directed by the supernatural realm

Genesis 3:8 After the fall

  • Adam and Eve saw God in the Spirit
  • We were created to see into the spirit realm
  • We are Hybrids…

God wants us to have a blessed, prosperous, healthy life connected to Him, fulfilled by using our purpose to make a difference in the world for Him. This can only happen by us walking in the spirit, operating in the Everyday Ordinary Supernatural!

Jesus restored that relationship back to us…

The book of Acts – believers were operating in the spirit realm supernaturally.

Romans 12:1 MSG
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—

Everyday, Ordinary, Supernatural

Go to Acts 29

II. Operating in the Everyday Ordinary Supernatural

Sometimes we miss the supernatural looking for the spectacular.

  1. How did Christmas happen? (Comparing Mary with Joseph)

One of the best illustrations of the Everyday, Ordinary, Supernatural is the season we are in right now.

Mary did not see how this would happen in the natural, but she was willing to accept the unseen in her spirit.

Christ Born of Mary

(Luke 2:1–7)

Matthew 1:18-20 – Joseph

Mary’s willingness to receive The Word from the spirit opened the door of the supernatural to all of us!

Mary was willing for God’s word to [Be Born in me]

B. The advantages of seeing the unseen

Jesus was our example, our pattern, our prototype of the Everyday, Ordinary, Supernatural

1. Direction

2. Healing (Epileptic Possessed Boy)

3. Financial Blessings (Peter)

4. Sowing and Giving

5. Protection

Spiritual Gifts – 1 Corinthians 12:7-11

Vocal, Power, & Revelation

Vocal Gifts – Say Something

Power Gifts – Do Something

Revelation Gifts – Gifts that reveal something.

Luke 22:8-11 NLT – Word of Wisdom

Luke 10:17 Supernatural was not just for Jesus. The Seventy Return with Joy.

C. Is the everyday, ordinary, supernatural available to us today?

Mark 15:17-20 Jesus last earthly instruction…

Personal Examples / Testimony

1. Finding Treasure in Dreams (Acts 2:17)

2. The Haunted House (Ephesians 6:12)

3. Smelling the Spirit (2 Corinthians 2:15)

4. A Fish with Money (Matthew 17:27)

5. Angel Armies (Hebrews 1:14)

6. Directions in Grace (Proverbs 24:4)

7. Heavenly Rescue (Hebrews 13:2)

Ex 1. Finding Treasure in Dreams (Acts 2:17)

2 Kings 6:11-17 Elisha and his servant see Angels

2 Corinthians 12:7 Demonic Attack

Ex: 2. A Haunted House (Ephesians 6:12)

D. Can you position yourself to see more into the spiritual realm?

Hebrews 5:12-14

…by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

III. Exercising our senses to operate in the spiritual realm

γυμνάζω gymnázō, goom-nad’-zo; from G1131; to practice naked (in the games), i.e. train

It was a strict custom of the ancient Greek games for Olympic athletes to compete in the nude.

Our Spiritual Senses:

1 Thess 5:23  – Spirit, Soul, & Body

Having spiritual senses (parallel to those of the natural)

Matthew 13:15-16 – Eyes and Ears

For the hearts of this people have grown dull.

Their ears are hard of hearing,

And their eyes they have closed,

Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,

Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,

So that I should heal them.’

But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;

2 Corinthians 2:15 NLT – Spiritual smelling

Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance [smell] rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing.

Ex 3. Smelling the Spirit (2 Corinthians 2:15)

Psalms 34:8 Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Luke 8:45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.

Four steps to “Exercise” operating in the Everyday, Ordinary, Supernatural – Prayer, Preparation, Practice, and People

  1. Prayer – Communicating with God
    Ephesians 1:17-18 AMP
  2. Preparation – Renewing your soul
    Romans 12:1-2 MSG
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life
  1. Practice – Exercise (Gk: gymnazo ) is often not convenient or easy – it is work.1 Timothy 4:8 GNT

Why practice?

– Life is messy

– People can be difficult

– Relationships are hard

– Communication today tends to be superficial

– Interactions are tribalized

  1. People – the heart of God is reaching the precious people that Jesus died for.
    2 Corinthians 13:11 AMP

The principal purpose for operating in the Everyday, Ordinary, Supernatural is for us to reach people:

  • strengthen the church
  • assemble together
  • save the lost
  • expand His kingdom
  • draw people closer to Jesus
  • create unity
  • bring us closer to each other

1. We need to exercise spiritually by interacting with people

2. We need to run our race being naked (transparent, authentic, and open) in sharing our testimony and our spiritual journey

3. We need to do the heavy lifting of being involved in other people’s lives seeing past the natural to the unseen supernatural realm

a. volunteer

b. get to know people on a deeper level

c. use our spiritual insight to uplift people

d. try to understand and reach out to people outside of your tribe (comfort)

IV. Conclusion: The Unseen realm

Ex 5. Angel Armies (Hebrews 1:14)

When God’s Love is bigger (to you) than your Problems

Then your limits become smaller than His Promises

Truth > Facts

Facts can change over time – Example: What time is it right now?

Ex 7. Heavenly Rescue (Hebrews 13:2)

Psalms 119:160 AMP

The sum of Your word is truth [the total of the full meaning of all Your individual precepts]; and every one of Your righteous decrees endures forever.
