A. Various Pitfalls & Snares

1. The Bible is God’s instruction manual for living the blessed life from the loving Creator. The proverbs reveal laws that govern life and the snares or pitfalls that will rob one of life. (Wrong Associations, Anger, Integrity, godly counsel)

a. (Prov. 13:14; 14:27; [22:5 NIV]).

B. Training Children

1.Many of the chapters of proverbs are written by Solomon to his son. (3 R’s – Relationship, Rules & Restraint)

a. (Prov. 1:8-10; 2:1; 3:1, 21; 4:1, 20; 5:1; 6:1, 20-23;7:1; 31:1)

• (Eph. 6:1-4 AMP)

~Obey your parents in the Lord. (behavior)

~Honor your mother and father. (heart)

▪ Honor – revere, respect, & value.

~The 1st commandment with promise.

▪ (Exo. 20:12 AMP)

~Bring them up in the training…

▪ Paideia – the whole training and education of children (which relates to the cultivation of mind and morals, and employs for this purpose now commands and admonitions, now reproof and punishment) it also includes the training and care of the body.

~Admonition of the Lord

▪ Exhortation, calling attention to, mild rebuke or warning.

~Disciplining in anger

~Spanking too hard, too often, too young, too old

~Inconsistency in discipline (good or bad mood)

~Disciplining for mistakes or forgetting vs. disobedience and defiance.

~Neglect

~Being unreasonable and legalistic
