I. Knowing the Father’s Love for You

A. The Secret of John

1.If you read the four gospels you may get a sense that of the twelve disciples Jesus had three favorites: Peter, James and John.

a. He called for them when:

~(Mk 5:37) Raising Jairus’ daughter

~(Mk 9:2) Mount Transfiguration

~(Mk 14:33) Prayer in the Garden

b. Peter (stones), James (sup planter – to replace), John (Jehovah is gracious)

~The Stones LAW will be replaced by GRACE

2.Peter and John are a contrast of Law and Grace.  Peter (Law) boasts in his love for Jesus, but John (Grace) boast in Christ’s love for him. (Matt.22:37 vs 1 John 4:10)

a. (Mark 14:29-31, 66-72) Jesus tells the disciples they will all be offended and leave Him.

3. John boasts of Christ love for Him! John refers to himself in his gospel as “the disciple whom Jesus loved” 5 times. 5 is the number of grace!
