A. Ephesians 6:1-4 AMPC – Children and Parents Harmony
1. (v1 AMPC) Children obey your parents in the Lord…
a. Godly marriage makes for the best parenting.
~Husband love your wife; wife submit to your husband; children obey your parents
b. (Heb. 10:25 KJV) Bring your children to church.
c. children teknon – any age
2. (v2-3 AMPC) Honor your father and mother
a. (Exo. 20:12; Deut. 21:18-21)
b. (Prov. 30:17; 20:20 both AMPC)
3. (v4 AMPC) Fathers do not irritate and provoke your children to anger. (Col. 3:21 AMPC)
a. Disciplining children (3 R’s – relationship, rules & respect)
~(Prov. 6:20-23) “…the way of life.”
~(Prov. 13:24 AMPC) proper discipline = love
~(Prov. 19:18-19 GNT) discipline early
~(Prov. 22:6, 15) rod of correction
~(Prov. 23:13-14 KJV) don’t withhold discipline
~(Prov. 29:15, 17 AMPC) rod and reproof
b. Fathers don’t provoke your children to wrath.
~Physical or verbal abuse
~Disciplining in anger
~Spanking too hard, too often, too young, too old
~Inconsistency in discipline (good or bad mood)
~Disciplining for mistakes or forgetting vs. disobedience and defiance.
~Disciplining in public or in front of other children
~Neglect
~Being unreasonable and legalistic
