I. The Secret Power of Worship

A.Review

1. We were “Made for worship.”

2. “Why We Worship” it’s our response to what we value most – our God, Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

B. The Ark of the Covenant (ref. Exodus 25:10-22)

1. (Exodus 25:22) the Ark of the Covenant is a type of Jesus and represents the presence and glory of God.

2. (Hebrews 8:5; 9:4-5 all NIV) contained in the Ark.

a. golden pot of manna – man’s rebellion against God’s provision. (ref. Exo. 16)

b. Aaron’s budded rod – man’s rebellion against God’s appointed leadership (ref. Num. 17)

c. Tablets of Covenant (10 Commandments) – man’s rebellion against God’s Word. (ref. Exo. 25)

C. The Ark Brought to Jerusalem

1.(2 Sam. 6:1-11 NIV) Right motive, wrong method.

a. (v6-7) God strikes Uzzah (strength) and he dies having touched the ark of the covenant.

~(ref. 1 Sam. 6:19) 70 die at Beth Shemesh.

b. (v10-11) David took the ark to the house of Obed-Edom for three months.

2.(2 Sam. 6:12-15 NIV) Right motive and right method.

a. (v12) God blessed Obed-Edom (servant or worshipper of Edom)

b. 7 mile walk from Odededom to Jerusalem.

3. (2 Sam. 6:16-23 NIV) When the Ark was present in its proper place the people were blessed with bread for sustenance and joy.

a. Worship and Praise brings the Presence of God

4. (John 4:23) the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
