I. The Faith of Abraham
A. Faith Grows through Relationship with God
1. (ref. Rom. 4:3) Abraham believed God and was declared righteous, but so was Lot. (2 Pet. 2:6-8 NIV)
a. (Heb. 7:18-19 NIV)
~Abraham built 4 altars and called on God
~Abraham tithed and served
~There is no record of Lot building altars, calling on God, tithing or serving.
2. Abraham and Lot are examples of righteousness by faith: Abraham developed relationship with God through righteousness by faith, but Lot did not.
a. (Gen. 20:2-18) Abraham and Abimelech
b. (Gen. 21:1-8 NLT) Isaac is born and weaned.
~(Heb. 5:12-14) babes vs. mature Christ
~(Gen. 21:9-13 NLT) Hagar/Ishmael put out
~(Gal. 4:21-31) the two covenants
c. (Gen. 22:1-18) Abraham’s faith tested.
d. (Gen. 24:1) Abraham blessed in all things.
e. (Gen. 25:1-2, 7-8) Sarah dies and Abraham remarries and has 6 kids.
