I.The Lord’s Prayer
A. Prayer Model or Framework
1. (ref. Luke 11:1) “…Lord, teach us to pray.”
a. Prayer is relational communication with God.
2. (recite Matt. 6:9-13) The Lord’s Prayer
a. “Your Kingdom come.” God’s will and plan for mankind and earth is to bring His Heavenly Kingdom from eternity into time through His relationship with mankind. This is the narrative and theme of the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation.
B. Your Will Be Done (Matt. 6:10b)
1. (v10) “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
a. God desires man to merge into His plan and program through prioritizing God’s Kingdom (His rule and authority) over our will.
~As we submit and surrender our will to His kingdom authority, we will see His will done on earth in lives as it is in heaven.
2. The Unconditional vs. Conditional will or plan of God
a. The Unconditional will of God is what God has determined to do nothing and no one can stop it.
~(Ps. 115:3; 135:5-6) God is sovereign.
~(Isa. 14:24, 27; 43:13 all ESV)
~(Rev. 21:2-4) God’s Kingdom is coming!
b. The Conditional will of God are things He plans and desires that may or may not come to pass because it requires the consent, cooperation, and participation of mankind.
~(Gen. 1:26; Ps. 115:15-16)
~(Deut. 30:15-20)
~(1 Tim. 2:3-4; 2 Pet. 3:9)
~(Jer. 29:11-13 NIV)
c. (ref. Isa. 14:12-14) Satan’s goal is to get mankind to rebel against God’s will by making us think our will is better than God’s will for us.
~(ref. Gen. 3:1-5) Eve deceived in the garden.
~Pride says “My way is better than God’s.”
d. We must decide to submit to God’s will for our lives because He is God and we are not!
~(1 Cor. 8:6 NASB; Col. 1:16) we exist for Him!
~(John 4:34) live for the will of God
~(ref. Matt. 26:39) “not as I will, but as You will”
3. (Eph. 5:17) We must know what the will of the Lord is.
a. (1 John 5:14-15 AMP)
b. (Deut. 29:29) secret will vs. revealed will.
~(Dan. 3:16-18) Hebrew boys in fiery furnace
~(John 11:21-25) Martha, Lazarus & Jesus
4. We need to:
a. Discover His will (Ps. 119:18)
b. Understand His will (Jas. 1:5)
c. Submit to His will (Rom. 12:1-2)
d. Fulfill or accomplish His will (Col. 1:9-10)
